A5 flyer printing

An A5 sheet measures 148 × 210 mm, exactly half an A4 page. It is big enough for a strong image and the key facts, yet small enough that people happily take one: the all-rounder for clubs, shops and anyone announcing an event. This link lets you configure the classic flyer straight at A5; the starting set-up, 90 g matt coated paper printed on both sides, already suits a letterbox drop.

Fête, opening, letterbox: typical A5 uses

• Events and clubs: a village fête, a harvest festival, the brass band's annual concert or the football club's bingo night, with the poster image on the front and the programme and directions on the back.
• Openings and promotions: a new florist, a reopening after renovation, an autumn or Advent sale with a cut-out voucher.
• Letterbox drops: A5 fits in unfolded and is large enough not to get lost among the rest of the post.
• Counter displays: at the bakery, the municipal office or the tourist office, where people help themselves.
• Posting: flat in a C5 envelope, for example our C5 inserting envelopes, together with an A4 letter folded once.

Image on the front, details on the back

A5 works best when image and text are in balance. A clear division of labour has proved itself: the front belongs to one image, the headline and the three facts people must catch in passing, namely what, when and where. Everything else goes on the back: programme, opening hours, map, prices, a QR code to sign up or a voucher with a dotted cutting line.

That is why the configurator opens A5 at 4/4, full colour on both sides. In a letterbox or on a counter, a flyer does not always land face up, and a blank back wastes half the surface. The 4/0 option, colour on the front only, remains available, as does a print option with varnish.

Paper by distribution route

How the flyer reaches people affects the paper weight. Most papers also come in PEFC quality; the page on paper types and materials explains what sets coated paper apart from uncoated.

A flyer for distribution rarely needs a finish. For an opening, partial glossy UV varnish (both sides) makes the logo stand out, and matt lamination on the front protects a flyer that stays on the counter for weeks.

Images and files for A5

Because a photo usually carries the front of an A5 flyer, check its size: if it fills the whole 148 × 210 mm area, it needs 1748 × 2480 pixels at 300 dpi, not counting bleed. Images taken from a website or social media are often much smaller and look blurred in print. Bear in mind, too, that colours on screen (RGB) can look slightly duller once printed (CMYK).

Smaller or larger?
